When you train your glutes, you want to utilize a variety of exercises and planes of motion but these four exercises are great for giving you lots of time under tension to maximize your training if you’re working out at the gym!

1. Hip Thrust - This exercise can be done with a machine, a barbell, dumbbells, or a resistance band and is one of the best for progressive overload and glute isolation without using too much hamstring.

2. Landmine Front Squat - Believe it or not, squats are NOT the best for glute *isolation, but they are an essential part of the equation in training your glutes! This variation could be replicated as a dumbbell goblet squat, a barbell front squat, or a dumbbell front squat. I you don’t have a landmine attachment you can simply wedge a barbell in the corner of a room to get the same outcome!

3. Cable Pull Through - This exercise can be done with a band, a belt attachment, kneeling, or standing and is often a favorite as people feel their glute squeeze really well at the end of the rep. You can also grab something stable in front of you to help with balance if you need it! Lean forward slightly to get the best activation, but make sure not to lean your hips forward to complete the movement. Breathe and squeeze!

4. Cable Abduction - Use the cable column to help with maintaining an upright torso as you lift your leg away from the midline of your body. Internally rotate your lifting leg (heel leads the way!) and make sure to keep the weight light enough that you don’t start to bend your leg or lean out to lift the weight.

The next time you’re traveling or training in a gym, use these exercises and throw a glute resistance band on to turn up the spice!
