Apple just held an event called “Scary Fast,” held at an unusual primetime hour. Here’s what they announced: M3 Chips: M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max. The M3 Max is absurd. 92 billion transistors, 16-core CPU and 40-core GPU. It’s 80& faster than the M1 Max released just 2 years earlier. Hardware-accelerated ray tracing and mesh shading are central to these chips - which of course is in preparation for Apple’s mixed reality and revamped gaming efforts. New MacBook Pros were announced, featuring a brand new color - Space Black. 2006 MacBook vibes. The M3 Max-powered MacBook Pro is a beast. 11 times faster than the last generation of Intel-based Macs. 128GB of unified memory. Up to 22 hours of battery life.  It’s rumored to even run Premiere Pro smoothly 😉 14” starts at $1,499 and the 16” starts at $2,499. The fully kitted out version? $7,199… Damn. The 24” iMac is also being updated, featuring the M3 chip. The design will remain the same. A bit of an underwhelming upgrade compared to the MBP. And… that’s it. Not much to that event. I was assuming that because it was their first ever Prime Time event… they would go all out. Not necessarily in product announcement – but in theatrics.
