Purple Rain! Purple Rain! Let the black excellence shower down like joy upon us!

The ladies of 'The Color Purple' are giving a brand new spin on the original 1985 film in this beautiful musical adaptation. Starring Fantasia, Taraji P. Henson, Danelle Brooks, H.E.R. and executive produced by Oprah, this film is destined to be an instant success.

The ladies opened up to ESSENCE about their experiences filming the film and how its a river of awakening and sisterhood! Be sure to read all about the new film in our Nov/Dec issue of ESSENCE available on newsstand TODAY!

Disclaimer: We recognize Black creatives are still fighting for their respect and equity; this fight has been displayed through this year’s labor strikes. It is important for us to let our readers know that ESSENCE conducted these interviews and photo shoot for our cover story in May 2023.
