Chicago Marathon Race Recap, Part 12:

We were running somewhere in the 5:20s and 30s, but I was hurting. I was fatiguing. 
We were nearing a fluid station and I felt a major sense of relief. Another genucan gel on deck. The fuel I need to get me home.

As I went to grab my bottle from the elite fluid table, I immediately noticed something was missing.

💭Where the heck is my UCAN?

My bottle was there but the gel I taped to it was not. (And if you know me you know there is nothing but water in that bottle).

🗯️FECK!

I threw the gel-less bottle to the ground like a two-year-old throwing a tantrum.

🗯️🏃🏻What happened? 

I divulged to bib #478 what occurred, in what I can only assume to be irrational hysteria in my voice. 

What does this already incredibly selfless man then do? 
He calmly reaches into his back shorts pocket and hands me one of his.

💭Who even are you?!

In that instant, it hit me so hard how spoiled I am.
Not only that:
1. I have elite fluid stations so I don’t have to carry around bottles or gels in my pockets.
2. I have this amazing human I’ve never met providing me with fuel, HIS fuel, that HE needs to get to the finish line.
3. I have non-vomit tasting UCAN gels that I look forward to taking every 5k because the flavor and texture resembles that of a smoothie.

I was massively grateful for that gel, but it took everything in me to choke that honey stinger down. 🤢
