My wife @lolo_burroughs and I have waited until all four of our kids’ births to find out if they were boys or girls.

Beacon was our first, and I always felt this strong desire for a son to be our leader.  Then came Ora, and Rise a few years later. But something, or someone, still felt like it was missing. After back to back girls, I really wanted Beacon to have a little brother. The value for both of them would be immeasurable. 

Beacon would be a leader, our beacon to show the way, and he would have the opportunity to build someone else up to represent the same level of character that we instilled in him. His baby brother would have someone to follow intently, and to gain knowledge and perspective from. 

We’ve made it clear that he can do these things with his sisters as well, but I desired for him a relationship and strong friendship that I knew his sisters would one day be blessed to have. 

So when Banner was born less than two months ago, I was elated. As soon as he came out, I jumped so high and screamed so loud you would have thought I had won the Olympics all over again.

The nurses immediately asked me, “Is this your first child?” I said, “No, it’s my 4th.” They replied, “Oh, so this is your first son.” I said “No, we have one at home.” They looked confused.  In that moment I was so just so incredibly grateful I couldn’t contain my happiness. Two brothers, and two sisters to raise together. It is perfect.

I prayed so hard for this little guy. I’m so thankful for his addition to our team. He’s got a great group of leaders around him ready to give him love and build him up for a lifetime.
