Some unshared moments from Peru 🇵🇪 - and a few things we learned 👇
•
If there’s 1 country we’re set on returning to - it’s Peru. We spent 2 weeks earlier this year, and barely scratched the surface. 
•
We focused on the jaw dropping destinations in and around Cusco: Macchu Picchu, Sacred Valley, Humantey Lake— and the (5 Day) Salkantay Trek 🥾. 
•
We stuck to the mountains—yet we’re DYING to return and experience: the Amazon, Huacachina (desert oasis 🏝️), Peru’s shining coast 🌊 and Paracas National Reserve + a Lima food tour —honestly, the list is endless and growing! (What should we add?)
•
Here’s just a few things we learned:
•
📅 May was PERFECT - although we hear that April to November (dry season in the Highlands) is ideal for popular destinations, such as Macchu Picchu.
•
🛑 Altitude sickness is real - Cusco sits at almost 10,000ft. We spent 3 full days exploring in and around Cusco, acclimating our lungs, before attempting the big 5 Day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu. And Rainbow Mountain sits at the highest elevation of them all— we saved for our last day.
•
😮‍💨 While you’re acclimating (getting your body used to the elevation), you can: 1) take a day trip to the Sacred Valley, 2) take a ‘free’ walking tour around Cusco. We also hiked through the hills above Cusco and road horses! (Pic 8) 
•
🏔️ PRE-BOOK your Machu Picchu timed entry, well in advance. We also booked our 5-day trek months in advance with salkntaytrekking (can’t recommend enough 👍). 
However, (we found) there’s no need to prebook shorter experiences & day trips, like Rainbow Valley. 
•
🐶 If you love pups, you’re in heaven. Most have families, but in Cusco at least, they run free and appear super happy. (Pic 5)
•
🟢 YES, Peru is not only a very safe and welcoming destination, we found it to have some of the kindest people we’ve ever met.
•

And as we look at 2024, our Number 1 destination is nearby Peru. Any guesses??
