Just Press Play | peacefullylovingme | This story was posted yesterday & popped up on my news which is how I saw it. I would like to begin by letting it be known that I myself AM NOT a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. However, I AM a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Which is another Divine 9 organization and in the name of Greek Unity, I very much so think this needs more attention for several reasons. 
1.) Not a single person reporting on or in this story was black or a member of one of our organizations but the woman being reported on and she wasn’t even interviewed.
2.) The news left out VERY key elements of the teachers email (the line where she states its for college trained/educated women, etc) as well as the young woman’s Twitter post. (The line where she says “we told the teacher what it means and she still won’t take it off”) which VERY much so can cause misunderstanding by not addressing those 2 important comments.
3.) They tried to make it about race when it absolutely wasn’t, at all. Had the shirt said FUTURE AKA she more than likely would’ve let the child keep wearing it, but with the teacher knowing that the parent & obviously nor the child are members of the organization, this is what happened. Nothing to do with race. All of our organizations items are trademarked and vendors must be licensed to sell them as well. 
4.) Pledging is illegal now so for them to say on the news “it is frowned upon for people that did not pledge organizations to wear the letters” is improper verbiage because all 9 of us are non-hazing/non-pledging organizations now. 
5.) Lastly, they said they reached out to local & national chapters. Most of our organizations are INTERNATIONAL meaning they don’t just have dealings in the country but all over the world. With that being said, I doubt they gave the chapter enough time to respond because the verbiage in the article reads “We reached out to local & national chapters & they haven’t provided immediate responses” as if any organization would.
