That's a whole lot of money. 👀 💸
•
On Sunday, Texas A&M fired head football coach Jimbo Fisher, triggering a contract buyout of more than $76 million—the largest in college football history and nearly triple the highest-known previous coaching contract buyout at a public school. 🫣
•
According to the terms of the contract, Texas A&M will owe Fisher $19.2 million within 60 days and then pay him $7.2 million annually through 2031. There is no offset or mitigation on those payments, and the annual payments start 120 days after termination.🤯
•
The former head coach was hired in 2017 with a massive 10-year, fully guaranteed contract worth $75 million. 🖋️
•
After leading the Aggies to a 9-1 record during the 2020 pandemic season, Fisher's contract was extended through 2031—another 4 years. The extension included an increase in Fisher's annual salary from $7.5 million to $9 million, raising his buyout as well.💰
•
Fisher will end his tenure at A&M with a 45-25 record over six seasons and no appearances in the SEC championship game. 🏈
•
With two games remaining this season, the athletic department has appointed assistant coach Elijah Robinson as interim head coach. 🤠 #thegist
