Taking care of yourself first isn’t selfish, it’s smart. And it’s the best way to be valuable to others.

If you’re so consumed with serving others or busy playing your role for them that you neglect yourself, three things will happen:

1. You will lose credibility with them because your shit isn’t even on lockdown.

2. You won’t be in a position to help them because you didn’t handle your shit first.

3. You will eventually resent them for not appreciating all the shit you did you do for them and all the shit you’ve put off in order to do it.

Handle your shit first. Then you can help other people with theirs.
