Link in Bio. ☠️ Scientists studying skeletons from 1600s Milan have found traces of T H C and CBD in the femurs of a woman in her 50s and a teenage boy, suggesting herb was used by people of all ages and genders. In a report, the researchers surmise that MJ was likely used recreationally, noting that hospital records from the time do not include can*abis in an inventory of medicinal plants used in the area.

Medical records from the Middle Ages do show that it was used in Europe as an anesthetic and as a treatment for gout, urinary infections and other medical conditions. But in 1484, can*abis was banned in what is now Italy by a decree issued by Pope Innocent VIII. In it, the pope referred to it as an “unholy sacrament” and banned use by all Catholics. ⛪️

Definitive evidence of the plants' use in what is now Italy had not been found in the centuries that followed the papal ban. Until now.

“We know that can*abis has been used in the past, but this is the first study ever to find traces of it in human bones..”
