Although we had a para category in 2022, we literally did nothing besides create it and we didn't really know what we needed to do to create an environment supportive of para athlete needs. First, Sam: Sam Summers is a scientist and para athlete based out of Longmont, Colorado. In her free time, Sam enjoys mountain biking, skiing, surfing, and sled hockey. Sam promotes the hi5sfoundation, kellybrushfdn, and Craig Hospital--organizations that have supported Sam and others who have sustained life-changing, permanent disabilities. In 2023, on one of our monthly leadership calls, Sam blew us away with a comprehensive and actionable presentation she created to help to help event organizers and better understand the range of para needs as well as specific things certain para athletes need to access in order to participate in events.
