State prosecutors will join forces with Alameda County’s District Attorney office to litigate organized and violent crimes in response to recent spikes, California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office announced in a Feb. 8 press release. The prosecutors will serve across the East Bay, including the Berkeley area, according to assistant to the mayor Stefan Elgstrand. The two or three attorneys will come from the state’s Judge Advocate General and focus their efforts on fentanyl-related drug offenses, carjacking and retail theft, among other crimes, according to Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price’s press release.
