tsunotsuno0831’s (Tsunotsuno) nocturnal digital world is inhabited by giants — solitary, contemplative young women trapped in painterly neon-lit urban environments.
Tsunotsuno’s melancholic and seductive cinematic stills have open-ended narratives, and are often mistaken for IRL dioramas with enormous inflatables. Informed by the deformation techniques of manga and anime, these trompe l’oeils of women exhibit varying emotional states. “They are angry, sad, helping each other, triumphant,” says Tsunotsuno.
“The elements of my work are created by what I think about myself and my surroundings. I composite characters created by 3DCG onto photographs of cityscapes I have taken. I make characters appear cramped, blocking the way.
