Photographer joelsartore captures footage of a least bittern wrcmn. Despite its long neck, this bird is actually one of the smallest members of the heron family. They are wetland-based carnivores, feeding on small fish, frogs, salamanders, slugs, crayfish, and a variety of insects. Least bitterns will usually stand at the base of aquatic plants near the surface of the water and patiently wait for their prey to appear. Once they're in sight, the bird easily collects them from the water using its long, thin bill, and lightning-fast stabbing.
