These two pieces make up part of the collection offered in our upcoming virtual silent auction (June 22-July 7). They will be listed as separate items. In early Hindu philosophy it was determined that all of existence arose from an essence. That essence was named Brahman, literally, ‘that which expands to become all that is.’ Early yoga was the struggle to find and return to that essence. That essence was thought to be beyond perception and description so it was talked about through symbols. A common symbol for Brahman was the seed. A little seed becomes a big tree. In the Narmada river seed shaped stones were discovered and revered as symbols of this seed consciousness. They are called Swambhu lingas (swambhu- self created, linga-symbol) and are often worshiped in Hindu temples.
