Hold the universe in the palm of your hand—or rather, on your wrist— with Van Cleef & Arpels Midnight Planetarium No. 1, part of the aptly named 'Poetic Complication' Series first launched in 2006. Each planet—represented by serpentine, chloromelanite, turquoise, red jasper, blue agate, and sugilite—rotates the Sun in real time. Mercury will take 88 days to complete an orbit, Earth 365 days, and Saturn 29 years. The time is indicated by the pink gold shooting star, which displays the hour and minutes. Paying homage to 18th century planetariums, which already used highly complex horological movements, VCA collaborated with Christiaan Van der Klaauw and Stern Manufacture to bring the design to life. Take a closer look during our Luxury Week exhibition, presented in partnership with silverseacruises in our York Avenue galleries beginning 1 June.
