A properly planned training program improves physical strength as our body adapts to the training stimulus. When you first begin a training program, the threshold to stimulate an adaptation is relatively low and the ability to induce strength is quite high. We like to call this, “newbie gains” in the fitness community. As we continue to progress and get stronger, training adaptions continue to take place so long as the training load is above the minimal effective dose. Anything below that threshold may be too low to stimulate an adaption. The caveat to this is a maladaptation which can occur if we do too much too soon, and training overload is not progressively applied, or the metabolic demands from training exceed our ability to recover.
