When #OluKai Ambassador Daniel Ikaika Ito was a #grommet in Hilo surfing at Honoli‘i, his favorite post-surf #snack was a #manapua from a store down the road. Originally called a char siu bao in Chinese, this savory delicacy is a bread dumpling stuffed with sweet, red pork. When the Pake (Chinese) introduced the char siu bao to Hawaiʻi, the Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians) called it meaʻono puaʻa. Meaʻono means "something delicious or sweet" and puaʻa means "pork."
