Mindfulness. A word that I first heard during one of rachael.moves yoga classes in the early 2000’s. During that instance the context was the be mindful about our physical bodies while practicing a particularly challenging yoga posture. I remember the word more than the posture and also recall thinking to myself ‘mindful movement’ was new to me.
Today, the word ‘Mindful’ has more depth and a wider context. We can be mindful about everything and we should be! This sounds simple, but I find it quite challenging at times.
I feel like I can be more mindful in everything that I do. Speaking mindfully is something I work on. Being mindful about what I eat - including where the food comes from and how it’s packaged - is important to me. Being mindful of how I care for my body and my mind. Mostly being mindful about how I treat others is of upmost importance to me.
