36 years, but we will never forget what happened in 1984. This piece represents the individuals that were taken away, but the elements of Sikhism that they left behind. This includes 3/5 K’s in Sikhism (which are the holy symbols of Sikhism): a Kara (silver bracelet), a Kanga (a brush for long uncut hair), and a Kirpan (an article of faith - meaning mercy and bless). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ For those of you who don’t know, 1984 is the year of the Sikh Genocide. Commencing in June, through Operation Blue Star, the Indian government planned attacks on holy Sikh temples, Darbar Sahib and Harmandir Sahib. The first week of June represents the attacks on both Gurdwaras (Sikh temples) and the numerous lives that were lost.
