Three years ago, Mely Corado was killed while working as the Store manager of a SilverLake Trader Joe’s. The LAPD was in pursuit of an armed man, Gene Evin Atkins, who allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and mother. As Atkins was running into the Trader Joe’s, the police opened fire into the crowded grocery store. Corado was struck and killed by one of the officers bullets. The Police Commission and Jackie Lacey run District Attorney’s office deemed the shooting to be with department policy.
On July 18th, 2021 protestors and activists lead by
@alforla2022 (Corodo’s brother) participated in the second annual “ March for Mely” and walked two-miles from LAPD’s North East Station to the Trader Joe’s on Hyperion Avenue in support of the Corado family.
The Corado family is demanding that the LAPD be held accountable for the killing of Corado because they fired the bullet. Yet, it’s Atkins who is being charged with Corado’s murder, he’s currently awaiting trial.
May Mely Rest In Peace. 🕊...
