New Lunar Year, new moon, new you. Happy Year of the Rabbit (or Cat) to all those who observe! Lunar New Year celebrations occur on the first new moon of the year and mark the beginning of Spring throughout much of Asia. The invisible phase of the Moon, the new moon phase, occurs when the Moon is in the same area of the sky as the Sun as it rises and sets. The Moon doesn’t usually pass between the Earth and Sun, just near it from our perspective. Our Orion spacecraft captured this image of the Earth rising behind the Moon on the 20th day of the #Artemis I mission as the spacecraft began its return to Earth. Image description: The bottom of the Orion spacecraft shines white in the foreground against the blackness of space. The gray Moon is displayed with visible deep craters in the middle as the distant crescent of Earth glows softly behind.
