20 years of humans living off planet 🙌
On Nov. 2, 2000, the Expedition 1 crew arrived at the International Space Station (iss), marking the start of 20 years of uninterrupted human presence on the orbiting laboratory.
This Dec. 2, 2000 photograph shows the configuration of the space station at the start of Expedition 1, taken by STS-97 crew members aboard space shuttle Endeavour during approach to dock with the station.
Two decades later, now on Expedition 64, the space station is a truly global endeavor. The unique microgravity laboratory has hosted 241 people from 19 countries, almost 3,000 experiments from over 4,200 researchers in more than 108 countries and areas, and a variety of international and commercial spacecraft.
