This throwback shows a successful test of the abort motor igniter for Orion’s Launch Abort System (LAS), further qualifying the igniter to be used in future missions. It was conducted by NASA and Alliant Techsystems Inc. (who has since merged with Orbital to become Orbital ATK) in 2014. During the test, the igniter underwent vibrations and extreme temperatures, simulating its hottest flight conditions.
