This single rose was flown into orbit on Space Shuttle Discovery in 1998 for a research study conducted to see how scents changed in the microgravity environment. Shuttle astronauts sampled its volatile oils (from where flowers derive their #scent), which produced fewer volalites than flowers do on Earth, creating a more subdued #fragrance that was overall entirely different than when it left our home planet.
