STAFF PICKS: Looking for a bite to eat in SoHo? Here is a neighborhood gem. Each Wednesday we will post a Drawing Center food fav.
Any bagel you get in New York is going to be good, but some places are particularly dedicated to the food, and it shows. Black Seed is one of those places. Less traditional than spots like Zucker’s or Murray’s, Black Seed mixes Montreal bagel making techniques into the classic NYC process, smoking their bagels in addition to boiling in honey-sweetened water. If you want to try a bagel made with care outside the New York norm, you can’t do better than Black Seed. It’s a different take on a local classic, akin to the only deep dish restaurant in a sea of flat crust pizzarias, worth embracing for filling a niche with skill and attention to craft. -Isabella Kapur, Communications Intern
