We have so many wonderful updates to share about how our Education Is Power program is evolving!
This year we’ve initiated a new program to address the housing challenges faced by 46% of our Power students in Malawi.
We already cover boarding fees for students with access to dormitories (hostels), but in recognizing the financial burden of securing accommodations for those without access to school hostels, we have begun providing a small stipend to secondary school Power students who self-board.
This assistance ensures that these students can focus on their studies without the added stress of housing insecurity.
Especially for female students who may face harassment during their commute to school that can deter them from completing their studies, the housing stipend alleviates a major cause of dropouts and poor performance due to distractions.
