Gustavo Petro was elected Colombia’s first left-wing president after defeating Rodolfo Hernández in tight runoff. Petro obtained 50.47% of the votes and Hernández 47.27%. The elected president became the most voted in the history of Colombia with 11.2 million votes.
“We are writing a new history for Colombia, Latin America and the world. From today, Colombia changes” Petro said in his victory speech.
