WHAT ARE SOME NUTRITION MYTHS YOU ENCOUNTER WORKING WITH ATHLETES?
Athletes often think in order to lose weight or reach their goal race weight, they need to cut carbs. THIS IS FALSE. For runners in particular, carbohydrates are a primary source of energy and cutting them out completely will lead to fatigue and poor performance. Rather than cutting out carbs entirely, I recommend athletes eliminate “unhealthy” carbs like chips, cookies, sweets, and alcohol and replace with whole grain carbohydrates. Not only will this be more filling overall, but will help you better maintain energy levels. Remember, losing weight doesn’t necessarily equal faster times.
