“The important thing is to have your identity, but never blow your obscurity. That's the key to the kingdom.” - #SteveMcQueen _ LIFE photographer John Dominis shot these candid images of Steve McQueen, born on this day in 1930, just a few months before "The Great Escape’s" release in 1963. The actor and racing fanatic valued his privacy and it’s a testament to Dominis that he was able to capture such a multi-faceted and immediate body of work. Shooting sport, war, big cats and big stars, Dominis is remembered for a lifetime’s work, including a beguiling study of Frank Sinatra and the iconic image of Tommie Smith and John Carlos raising their fists at the 1968 Olympics.
