#USNA tour and showcase places around the yard that are not usually seen by the public. Today, we are peeling back the curtain and looking at a place responsible for feeding over 4,000 midshipmen three times a day - the King Hall kitchen. Fun fact: a typical meal will include over one ton of protein for the entire Brigade!
4:15 a.m. That’s when the cooks of King Hall arrive. They come bright and early to take out the combi racks full of breakfast food prepped the day prior (a combi rack is an oven which allows you to cook with steam, convection, or both). Then they prepare the liquid eggs. As the kitchen begins to heat up for the day, additional cooks come to oversee the eggs. Other workers will begin buzzing around each of the three cafeteria wings - stocking the bread bars, doughnut tables, oatmeal bars, and protein bar racks along with filling up the yogurt fridges, coffee machines, and hot water.
