As we close out Read Across America today, Tennessee State University celebrates its first librarian, Nashville native, Martha M. Brown. In 1926, she influenced the University’s administration to provide money to build the first library. It was built in 1927 and modernized in 1950. After her retirement in 1951, Lois H. Daniel became the librarian. In 1976, the Martha M. Brown-Lois H. Daniel Library was constructed replacing the old Memorial Library honoring the two individuals. It now houses study and research facilities for students and faculty, a Special Collections Room and other departments that support the library. We salute Ms. Martha Brown and Ms. Lois Daniel!
