Winged Victory The statue on top of the Arizona State Capitol building is called “Winged Victory”. She has been on top of the copper dome since 1901 and is older than the State of Arizona. The statue is a 17-foot wind vane made of zinc and was cast in Ohio in 1889. She sits on a rotating pedestal and spins when the wind hits her wings. The statue has an interesting history. It is believed that back in the territorial days, cowboys would ride out to the Capitol after drinking at saloons and aim for the wings to make her spin. During a restoration, workers found holes in her wings to support this. Disclaimer: I had permission from DPS and Capitol staff to fly here. #arizona #history #wildwest #phoenix #cowboy #drone #fpv #az #downtownphoenix #visitphoenix
