TU's Department of Political Science welcomed former #utulsa Professor Paul Rahe back to campus Thursday evening to present his lecture "The Rhythm of American Politics and the Crisis of the American Party System." He spoke about what he calls the 24-year itch, which dates back to the American Revolution, and then took questions from the audience. His theory is that about every quarter-century, the United States goes through a phase of "profound popular discontent." However, he said, Americans can rebel without bloodshed thanks to the release valves provided in the U.S. Constitution. "Every four years, we ask the American people, 'Do you want a revolution?'" Rahe is a professor of history at hillsdalecollege, where he holds the Charles O. Lee and Louise K. Lee Chair in Western Heritage. He taught previously at Yale University and cornelluniversity.
