Communication is a constant learning game. When my husband and I first met it was easy. It was almost easier when he was away for work or deployed because we would mostly text or email. Communications were straight forward and I could use my imagination to create the tone of his voice. Phone or video calls were little treats so they were almost always happy and positive.
When we got married and started having children (read: started getting stressed out and lacked sleep) is when our communication would sometimes get strained - we'd be snappy, short and yell over the noise. I am sensitive to changes in vocal tone, facial expressions and body language so I'd jump to conclusions constantly. With each chapter in our life together we create and add different tools to our toolbox and here are just a few.
