You are not any less compassionate, compelled, or committed if you choose to take a break from the constant barrage of violence and war imagery that is your newsfeed. We have one another to sustain one another, so none of us needs to do everything all at once and all the time. While we avoid making our pleasure and self-care complicit in reinforcing injustice, if we do not tend to the well-being of our own hearts and minds, we will eventually crumble. Sure, I may be projecting because my own body is worn out and down, but damn if all of the pain in the world has not been at a long-ass crescendo these past few days.
