I believe that the version of the Christian faith that I profess and attempt to live out — one that is expansive, loving, and just — is a better version than those that disguise love as hate and inflict emotional violence and spiritual trauma on women, POC, and LGBTQIA+ folkx. 🌈 💒✊🏽 As one of them liberal, progressive* Christian pastors I am always holding the tension between what I believe IN and what I stand AGAINST. As a pastor who is leading a congratulation striving to tell a story of wisdom, empathy, compassion, and justice, it's important for me to always be able to tell my own. While there is much more to my faith and expressions of it, this captures an important aspect of it, namely that my faith calls me to hold other accountable. I am not at the point that I am willing to say that someone is or is not a Christian — I'll leave that to God — but I can call people out for proclaiming a gospel that I believe lies about the nature of the faith. *Lots of code words there. ...
