How to pipe a shell border-
Using a large piping bag with a Wilton 8B tip attached, fill with buttercream in colors of choice (be sure to beat out any air bubbles beforehand)
.
Holding the piping bag at a 45 degree angle, flick your wrist upwards slightly as you release pressure from the bag. Pull the tip away at the bottom.
.
Starting at the base of the first “shell”, continue this motion along the entire edge of the cake top.
.
I used Glossy Vanilla Buttercream for this cake (recipe in my baking book Caketopia)
.
You can use any piping tip with this technique! It’s one of the easiest borders to learn and looks elegant on any cake- simple or elaborate!
