BART has adopted a two-year budget that aims to maintain train service levels and staffing for enhanced safety and cleaning efforts. The budget was approved by the BART Board of Directors on Thursday. The budget prioritizes avoiding cuts that will negatively affect the local economy, traffic standards and ongoing climate goals, according to a press release from BART. To increase security, BART will install taller fare gates at stations to prevent people from riding without paying. The budget will continue to support discounted rides for low-income riders, providing an increased 50% off trips through the Clipper START program.
