Getting good quality sleep is crucial for athletes— and for everyone else. I used to take my sleep for granted: I fell asleep when I had checked everything off my to-do list for the day and woke up for whatever I had planned in the morning. For a lot of my skating career I was actually very sleep deprived because I had so much on my plate. I survived for a while with those bad sleep habits, but it wasn’t until I started to prioritize my sleep that I really started to thrive. There’s two factors to getting good rest: sleeping enough, and sleeping well. The sleeping enough aspect is pretty straightforward (although seldom easy to do), but sleeping well is just as important and often overlooked.
