As we approach the summer season it’s important to listen to the advice from
nixhydration Data Scientist, Brad Wright, about hydration strategies specifically in the heat.
When an athlete begins a training session in an extreme environment in which they’re not accustomed to, it can cause their sweat rate to decrease by 10-20% which then leads to hinder the body’s ability to regulate body temperature. When this occurs, not only will performance be impaired, but it can also lead to health and safety complications as well.
Learning about the differences in your sweat and electrolyte loss rates in high to extreme conditions versus low to moderate conditions will allow you to properly prepare a hydration strategy specific to the current training environment and avoid the consequences of dehydration.
