One fun activity you can do this month is to observe the phases of the moon with chalk drawings! πππππ
Each day/night, letβs use chalk to draw the moon that you see in the sky. Remember the moon will rise and set at different times depending on where you're located, but it should be visible for about 12 hours each day - so keep your eyes peeled!
Watch how the moon progresses from the New Moon phase (when it's completely in shadow) to a waxing crescent, to a 1st quarter moon, to a waxing gibbous, to a Full Moon (when it's completely illuminated by the sun).
The moon is orbiting the Earth and as it does this, different parts of the moon are illuminated by the sun. Depending on where it is in its orbit, none/part/or all of the side of the moon that we see will be lit up!
Use binoculars to get a closer look! Do you see those dark spots on the surface? Those are craters and ...
