Dana Schwark, a seventh-grade teacher at Carmel’s George Fischer Middle School, vividly remembers her repeated encounters with Eric Holt. The young Holt, after all, was a repeat offender. His crime? “Running and bounding down the halls.” Schwark is part teacher, part traffic cop when it comes to the hallways, and she’d frequently write up Holt for unreasonable speed. At the time, she had no idea she was issuing the school version of a citation to a kid who was merely laying the groundwork for his future career as a professional runner. That career became official Wednesday, when the 29-year-old 2013 Carmel High grad signed a multi-year contract to represent Puma.
