While the goal for my class is to encourage kid-powered solutions, I struggled sometimes during remote learning last spring because it felt like days before I’d hear back to see if a student got their issue solved. To help, the students and I agreed using a digital version of “Ask 3 Before Me.” Before asking me for help, students were supposed to use any combo of three approaches: googling, asking a sibling, or FaceTime/chatting a friend. I was happy to see that not only did they start face-timing each other, but they also learned other skills like how to take screenshots and send them to their friend for questions. The brightest part of being separated by screens was that I saw my students feeling empowered to take care of each other. I hope moving forward that this really expands student stamina to be tenacious problem solvers and roll with the idea that sometimes the answer is slower to get to now, but worth it to pursue. - From Jessica Heckman, Teacher #TeachersOfInstagram #Onl...
