On Cesar Chávez Day, we remember the legacy and impact Cesar Chávez had on the UC Santa Cruz campus and community. A leading social activist, Chávez spoke to a crowd of students, faculty, and staff on May 4, 1973 in the Quarry Amphitheater. He had many deep and lasting relationships with UC Santa Cruz alumni, faculty, and staff, whose lives were changed through the nonviolent farmworker movement that started in the ’60s and continues today.
