Former Cincinnati Red Aroldis Chapman set the All-Time mark for strikeouts by a left-handed relief pitcher this week with the 1,197th strikeout of his career.
The record-setting strikeout came during a tied game in the ninth inning. Sean Murphy missed on a 102.9 mile per hour heater from Chapman to secure the record.
“It’s just an emotional day for sure, because you work for something like that at some point in your career — to be the best — and it happened.” Chapman said through his interpreter.
It sparks a greater debate for the 14-year veteran who spent the first six years of his career in Cincinnati, is he a future hall-of-famer?
The glove he was wearing is, as it was sent to Cooperstown shortly after he set the record.
