“My undergraduate policy task force was on the European Refugee Crisis. The class revealed to me the plight of the destitute as we learned about human smuggling and its victims. It also marked the beginning of an academic journey for me where I sought to understand policy dynamics that failed to prevent such outcomes. The subsequent summer I found myself conducting first-hand research — trying to understand why two relevantly similar countries, Denmark and Sweden, had vastly different immigration policies. Thesis funding from princetonSPIA enabled me to interact and understand perspectives from a diverse set of stakeholders ranging from policymakers and academics to civic society leaders and the beneficiaries, the immigrants themselves....
