Inez Elementary School in Albuquerque, NM, is acknowledging and celebrating Pueblo experiences and ways of knowing through their garden programming. “Appreciation for the beauty and depth of our arid environment combined with respect for traditional Pueblo community knowledge is what our garden program is all about,” notes PTO member Rebecca Brinkerhoff. The school used rammed earth berms and student-made adobe blocks to manage erosion and promote water retention in their garden space, techniques still used in Pueblo communities throughout the southwest.
