#ArtistOnTheRise is Mariah the Scientist, the Biology student turned R&B singer and songwriter from Atlanta, Georgia.
Before her musical debut, Mariah the Scientist was Mariah Buckles, a Biology student at St. John’s University in New York. Her passion for music continued to follow her while studying at school and she began writing music during her time there. By combining her interest in science with her name, she created the stage name “Mariah the Scientist”.
Following three years, she decided to focus on her music career and took a break from school and dropped her debut EP, To Die For, in 2018 on SoundCloud. Her debut EP garnered the attention of Tory Lanez, becoming the beginning of his mentoring role in her career. Once debuting her EP, she began to focus on developing her musical style and sound. This led to her signing with RCA Records for her debut album titled Master, executive produced by Tory Lanez.
