#OnThisDay in 1965, Viola Liuzzo, a White mother who left her family in Detriot to join the Selma to Montgomery march in Alabama, was murdered by the Ku Klux Klan. As she was driving a Black activist, Leroy Moton, back to Montgomery, the Klan began chasing them and shot Viola in the head, killing her instantly. Hers was among a list of murders that helped spark the passing of the Voting Rights Act months later.
